Here you will find a warm reception at Southampton's friendliest Open Mic Night.
If you think you may be able to entertain by playing an instrument, singing, reciting poetry, monologues, comedy, juggling, whatever- but have never been given the chance...
...well you have now- and It's FREE!
With it's warm and welcoming atmosphere and really friendly audience, it has developed into a close community of local artistes and musicians.
Even complete beginners get a great reception and the chance to perform on a real stage using our state of the art house PA and lighting rig, (If you don't have any yearnings to get on stage then we would be pleased to see you as part of the audience)- so come on down and join in the fun!
The Candle Club was the first open mic night to be held in Southampton. Established in 1996 by Simeon Hill and Clive Roberts at The Talking Heads, the Candle Club takes place every Monday night and has a reputation for encouraging new talent of whatever age or experience. (Under 18's must be accompanied by an adult).
We accept any performance - as long as it's quick to set up! Then you have ten minutes to do your thing.
The current Candle Club sign up procedure:
• On Monday’s when The Southampton Ukulele Jam are rehearsing (every other week) – We will take sign-up’s for all slots at 8.30 and the first act will be on at 9pm.
• On the other Monday’s – we will take sign-up’s for people who want to play between 8.30pm and 9.30pm at 8.00. When that part of the evening is full then the rest of the slots will be filled.
If you want to perform at the Candle Club, get there early!
Slots are given/taken on a first come first served basis and, with around 18-20 acts each and every Monday, these obviously go fast. It’s not uncommon for the list to open and be full within 5 minutes!
• No slots can be pre booked via social media, text message, written letter or carrier pigeon!
• The length of all slots is the same – Whether you’re a magician, comic, musician, performance artist, drama queen or just want to rant incoherently, (it has happened!) the stage is yours for as long as the traffic lights allow (with setting up about 10 minutes).
We look forward to seeing you soon!

There is a fine range of real ales (we are in the Camra Good Beer Guide 2014) draught and bottled beer, wine, spirits, coffees and bar snacks available from the bar in Southampton's most eclectic music venue.
Relax in the unique ambience of our front bar with its antique furniture and curios.
The venue has plenty of seating with tables, but we advise arriving early to ensure a prize perch.
